When choosing a crypto prop firm, one of the first decisions you'll face is whether to pursue a one-step or two-step evaluation. Both paths lead to the same destination - a funded account - but they get there differently. The right choice depends on your confidence level, trading style, and how quickly you want to start earning.
How One-Step Challenges Work
A one-step challenge requires you to hit a single profit target - typically 8–10% of your account - while respecting the drawdown limits. Pass once, and you're immediately funded. There is no verification phase. This is the model used by Nordfunded: you demonstrate your ability once and move directly to a funded account.
How Two-Step Challenges Work
A two-step evaluation adds a verification phase after the initial challenge. Phase 1 usually has a higher profit target (8–10%), and Phase 2 has a lower target (4–5%) designed to confirm consistency before full funding is granted. Some traders find this reassuring, but it doubles the time needed to reach a funded account.
Who Should Choose One-Step?
One-step challenges are ideal for experienced traders with an established, backtested strategy. If you've been consistently profitable on your own account and understand your risk parameters, there's no reason to spend extra time in a verification phase. Get funded faster and start earning sooner.
Who Should Choose Two-Step?
Two-step challenges suit traders who are newer to prop challenges or whose strategies produce inconsistent short-term results. The additional phase acts as a forcing function for consistency. However, be aware that two-phase firms sometimes change their rules between phases, which introduces additional uncertainty.
Our Recommendation
For most experienced crypto traders, a well-structured one-step challenge from a reputable firm is the most efficient path to a funded account. It removes unnecessary bureaucracy, gets you earning sooner, and the single clear target is easier to plan around with a defined trading strategy.
